A Code Sprint is a three day virtual event, where dozens of developers from around the world come together to code and share their ideas. The main goals of this code sprint are to support the development of OGC API Discrete Global Grid Systems, Tiles, Coverages and Environmental Data Retrieval and software which implements those standards/ candidate standards, as well as creating awareness about the standards and software projects. The code sprint is hosted by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and takes place on the OGC-events Discord server. We leverage its channel structure to create a collaborative and productive environment.
You can find more details about the code sprint on the event's wiki page .
On the main track, developers have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the standards, either by working on implementations of the standards or on the actual standards.
They will be working at their own pace, developing code or in other related activities such as testing, compliance, submitting issues or documentation.
Discussion is encouraged on discord, at the #General channel (text), or at the #Breakout Room (voice) and we will meet at given checkpoints during the day, at the #Main Stage .
At the end of the code sprint, everyone one will have the chance to demonstrate what they have been working on, during the demo session.
We acknowledge that not everyone may be familiar or feel comfortable to contribute to the standards yet, so we have curated a parallel track for newcomers.
On the mentor stream, developers will have the opportunity to learn more about the standards, and give their first steps in using them. The stream will include community led tutorials which will take place on discord, at the #Mentor Room channel (voice) and access to mentoring from staff and community members on the #find-a-mentor and #mentor-room (text) channels.
You can view here an example of a mentor stream, from a previous code sprint.
If you don’t know where to start, you probably should check-out the Mentor Stream!
A Code Sprint is a three day virtual event, where dozens of developers from around the world come together to code and share their ideas regarding sharing geospatial information.
The code sprint will be a 3 day event from May, 10-12 2022! The welcome webinar will be held on May, 4.
Admission is free and includes mentors, workshops, $wag, resources, and a memorable experience!
You can find the updated schedule on this link.
If you are a web developer, working or interested in working with location data this sprint is also for you.
You can take it as a starting point on a journey to use geospatial data in a more efficient manner. Do not worry about the things you don't know yet - just bring your enthusiasm and your backend or frontend skills, and we will bring the rest! The sprint includes two parallel tracks: the main track and the mentor stream .
On the main track, developers have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the standards, either by working on implementations of the standard or on the standard itself. They will be working at their own pace, developing code or in other related activities such as testing, compliance, submitting issues or documentation. On the mentor stream, they will have the opportunity to learn more about the standards, and give their first steps in using them. The stream will include community led tutorials and access to mentoring.Once the sprint starts, you can find a mentor in the #find-a-mentor channel, on the OGC-events discord server.
A virtual code sprint takes place 100% online. This means that anyone in the world can join, provided they can follow the EST timetable. The code sprint runs entirely on the discord plattform, which provides both text and video/audio channels.
During the code sprint, we will meet at given times in designated channels, according to the schedule , and use other channels for spontaneous, synchronous or asynchronous discussion. In some code sprints, participants will also have the opportunity to setup additional meetings in Jitsi rooms.
You can read more about the logistics and other details of the code sprint, on the wiki page .
There will be audio and video recordings of some sessions, which will be available for registered participants.
We are empathetic towards the fact that people's schedules may not allow them to be at the code sprint 100% of the time, during the 3 days of the event.
Just bear in mind, that in the case of sponsored code sprints you may need to demonstrate a minimum attendance, if you apply for funding. If the code sprint is not sponsored or you do not require funding, your attendance rate is completely up to you.Everyone is free to attend this code sprint.
Registration is open and closes on Monday, May 7 2022, 7:00am EST. Follow this link to register!
In sponsored code sprints, cost-share funding may be available, in order to cover the time developers spend in the code sprint.
Just bear in mind that some conditions may have to be fulfilled, in order to be eligible for funding. We encourage you to check the wiki page for the latest details on funding opportunities.
